Winning Gunfights From Behind The 8-Ball (video 1)

You’re going to appreciate this…

It’s the first of 3 videos I’m going to share with you on how to win gunfights from behind the 8-Ball.

Check out how these punks find, fix, flank, and start to finish the good guy…

They had every advantage and all they had to do was finish the job.

He won the gunfight, but why?

I want you to watch the video and share what you think went right and what went wrong.

This guy did one thing beyond everything else…and I’ll reveal it on the webinar on Thursday.

He kept his back to the car and as he was faking like he was going to pull out his wallet he drew and fired.

He kept his cool, he positioned himself between car and steel support to shield himself and picked his moment. I do agree with Bob T about the gas pump spray. I can imagine all the different scenarios while watching the video as opposed to being in it.

Yup…that’s why it’s so important to be exposed to situations like this ahead of time.

    Right: a. Kept his cool
    b. Unexpectedly dropped the pump–probably distracted threats
    c. Put them in a funnel of death, between pillar and car
    d. Shielded his draw with his body and distracted them from his draw by moving his left hand
Wrong: a. Let one threat get beyond his peripheral vision
    b. let one threat use pillar as a barricade
    c. Appears to be using a revolver; against 3 threats, you’d better be good…and lucky

Dropping back and distracting the nearest attacker while staying aware of the other two were his best moves in my opinion. When the opportunity to turn the attack to his advantage came he did so aggressively and rapidly reducing any opportunity for the other two to join in the attack. It was difficult to see where the other two went after shots were fired.

I think they got the heck out of Dodge 🙂

He established a passive body posture by bringing his hands up. I also noticed how he bladed his body to hide his draw. As he draws, I wasn’t sure if he is rotating around the bad guy closest to camera, was him moving out of the way of the line of fire, or if he was just stepping up on the pump stand. Hard to tell because I’m watching on a phone.

He feigned compliance to buy time and opportunity before taking the offensive. Watching videos like this underscore an advantage with strong side carry…being able to mask the draw without turning away from an attacker. Appendix carry doesn’t afford this advantage.

I would have sprayed the gas at their face or faces of the two walking right up to him then drop the hose then immediately draw…distract (which he ended up doing with his left hand) then run or draw. fight or flight…the good old OODA loop

lol…I thought that too, but there are a couple of factors that keep that from being a practical option for most people 🙂

Looks like he bought time by blading his body and drawing their attention to his left hand reaching to his back pocket.

While they were focused on his left he was drawing with his right.

Great eye…great eye. That’s one of the big factors.

Where to start…. in range training you rarely get to practice drawing from a holster or concealed carry, practicing shooting from cover and moving, training under stress, moving targets and knowing how to position yourself to make the best of a situation like this.

The victim used the car as cover from the guy who flanked his left side so that he could focus on the immediate threat in front of him. He backed away from the immediate threat which gave the attackers the impression that they were in control (until they were not 😊) while giving him room to execute his plan of offense.

Definitely a hairy situation to be in no matter your level of proficiency with firearms and self defense!

I honestly don’t know where to begin, question wise. So many questions, which question do I ask first?

The victim backed up to the driver’s side door so that two of the perps were in front of him and the third had the car in his way.

How do I keep my family safe(read out of the way) during an encounter with multiple assailants?

    • Ox

That’s a great question and it all depends on the situation. Is it a home invasion and you’re on opposite sides of the bad guys? Is it in a restaurant and one or more people are in the rest room? Or are you all together.

Every situation is going to be different, but there are 2 general guidelines for keeping your family safe during an encounter with multiple assailants…

      1. Help them escape.
      2. Stop the threat.
