I was talking with Bob today (Thursday…the first day of the shoot) and he asked me why I made the cards. Basically, I saw a HUGE disconnect between how every single martial art and ball sport is taught and how firearms are taught. The cliff notes version is that it’s WAY cheaper to shoot 1,000 free throws to move the skill from being a conscious skill to being unconscious than it is to do the same with firearms skills. Dry fire (done correctly) bridges that gap.
So, I worked with Col. Randy Watt (US Army SF (Guard)), Retired Navy SEAL, Larry Yatch, Former Force Recon Marine, Chris Graham, Runner up from season 3 of Top Shot, Mike Hughes, Matt Seibert, Ed Santos, David Morris, and a few dozen other current and former operators to figure out fun, practical drills that people could do dry that would help them maintain and improve their shooting skills.
In the process, we incorporated in A LOT of psychological and physiological hacks to accelerate the learning process…some of which came straight out of what Robbins/Grinder did with Project JEDI with the Army shooters in the 80s and with the SEALs afterwords. Some of these are overt, but most are incorporated into the “stranger” drills where the benefits aren’t immediately obvious.
So, here are the goodies that I promised.
I’ll give you a disclaimer right off the bat. I’m a behind-the-scenes guy. I’m not the best on camera and I’m not the best editor. That being said, the lessons shown are rock solid and proven.

2nd, I want to share some of what is possible after taking 6 months off of live fire training and ONLY doing dry fire training:
This is especially valuable if you live in a Northern climate.
Everyone knows that you need to adjust your cadence based on your acceptable level of accuracy and distance to the target, but how do you do this with dry fire? The fact is, you can dry fire a lot faster than you can do live fire because of the lack of recoil. If you dry fire at a pace that is faster than what is possible with live fire, you’re going to create a confused brain state and your mind will create separate neural pathways for dry fire and live fire. This is bad. What you want to do is figure out (or decide) on 3-4 cadences that will be your default cadences and practice them using a metronome. On this page, I show the difference between shooting at a 1″ target, a 2″x3″ target, and an 8 1/2″x11″ target, all at 15 feet.
